Pediatric Physical Therapy

Our Pediatric physical therapist works with children and their families to assist each child in reaching their maximum potential to function independently and to promote active participation in home, school, and community environments. Physical therapists use their expertise in movement and apply clinical reasoning through the process of examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and intervention.

Pediatric physical therapy promotes independence, increases participation, facilitates motor development and function, improves strength and endurance, enhances learning opportunities, and eases challenges with daily caregiving. Parents and families have the primary role in their child’s development. The pediatric PT collaborates with the family to promote development and implement an individualized intervention program for the child. This can include: positioning during daily routines and activities, adapting toys for play, expanding mobility options, using equipment effectively, facilitating safety for the home and community, and smoothing transitions from early childhood to school life.

Treatment programs can include: therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activity, gait/running/stair training, balance training, neuromuscular re-education, aerobic conditioning, stretching, and orthotic recommendations. Treatment sessions consist of play-based interventions that are functional for the child.

Testimonials

Luke has come so far in his gross and fine motor skills and overall awareness of his self and body since starting OT at Sensory Solutions! The tools we have been given and what we have learned is invaluable. As a child who does not like being outside and struggles with motor coordination, Luke has now taken to riding his scooter! He now asks to go outside and ride, and he smiles while riding which melts our hearts! He is a confident young man now.
