Speech Therapy

Therapists provide evaluation and treatment services that address each child’s communication needs. Treatment plans are typically designed to target one or more of the following areas;

– Auditory Processing (auditory attention/memory)
– Receptive Language (vocabulary knowledge, following directions, listening comprehension, inferential reasoning)
– Expressive Language (word retrieval, grammar, sentence structure, storytelling)
– Articulation and Phonology (awareness and production of speech sounds)
– Apraxia ( motor planning and execution for speech)
– Oral Motor Dysfunction
– Voice (volume, pitch, quality)
– Fluency (stuttering)
– Reading (decoding, sight words, fluency, comprehension)
– Writing (spelling, written language)
– Autism Spectrum Disorders
– Pragmatics (social communication)

Before starting occupational therapy, Daphne was much more sensitive to environmental discomforts. However, things have been changing for her since meeting with Julie. Historically, getting Daphne to wear sunscreen was always a battle. Also, Daphne avoided being in the rain, and at times felt anxious or even cried when she couldn’t avoid it. But on our recent vacation we had some pleasant surprises. Daphne said the sunscreen felt good when applied. Additionally, when sand accidentally got mixe din the sunscreen, she said it hurt a little but she tolerated it. This was a truly amazing transformation for her. These and other changes have come about after doing OT with Sensory Solutions. Now Daphne is better able to cope with her environment and participate in life more fully. We are grateful for how positively she and our family have been effected by OT.
